Dawakhana Tibbiya College launches ‘Payodent’ Unani toothpaste

Adding to a large fleet of its world famous and popular Unani medicines, Dawakhana Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University has come up with a trustworthy toothpaste “Payodent”, which holds promises for bleeding and swollen gums and pyorrhea.

The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor today launched the toothpaste and called this a big plunge in the field of Unani medicines hoping it to become a common household product all over the country in near future.

“In times when people are anxiously looking for Unani products for all their household needs, especially medicines and other beauty products, this toothpaste will hopefully attract the people who are in search of a remedial toothpaste for safe and dependable remedy for various dental problems”, said Professor Tariq Mansoor.

He, however, urged the Dawakhana management to focus on its reliable and countrywide marketing for maximum reach to customers.

Professor Salma Ahmad (Member Incharge, Dawakhana Tibbiya College) said that this toothpaste is a result of academia-industry interface and an outcome of a collaborative project between the Department of Saidla, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College and the Dawakhana Tibbiya College.

“It has been patented with the concerned department and the Dawakhana Tibbiya College owns its proprietorship”, she added.

She said that the toothpaste, approved by the Directorate of Unani Services under the Ministry of Ayush, offers effective treatment for bleeding gums, swollen gums, cavity, sensitivity and bad breathing. It also provides a cure to the most common dental ailment, pyorrhea. The toothpaste comes in two packs of 50 gram and 100 gram.

At a time when universities across the country are been adversely affected by the pandemic, Rehan Alam Siddiqui, a Non Resident Indian (NRI) based in Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has donated Rs 15 lakhs to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to set up an oxygen generation plant at its Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC).

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has seen unprecedented number of cases and deaths during the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic which is yet to be brought under control.

As per the last update , as many as 18 working faculties besides a number of other retired professors and serving employees have become victim of the deadly virus so far.

“Alarming death toll”

The alarming death toll has sent shock-waves leading to apprehensions that a deadlier ‘AMU strain’ of the virus is wreaking havoc. It was also reported that for the first time in the history of the university, the AMU cemetry is running short of space and old graves are now being dug up to bury the dead.

Against this backdrop the university had issued appealed to the government and other public and private organisations and individuals for help and support.

Rehan Siddiqui obliged and donated the huge sum to his alma mater. Extending gratitude on the largesse, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor said:

“Mr Rehan is a true well wisher of the university, whose donation will be very beneficial to upgrade the existing health infrastructure for an effective Covid Response”.

“We at AMU are making all possible efforts to contain the spread of this pandemic and Mr Siddiqui’s donation will go a long way in serving the sick and the distraught with the lifesaving oxygen supply”, he added.

Born and brought up in a middle-class family in Bareilly (UP), Rehan Siddiqui has emerged as one of the fastest growing businessmen and industrialists in the Eastern Region of KSA.

Rehan Siddiqui is promoting better relations of the Indian community with the Indian consulate in KSA. He also organises cultural and academic programmes.

“Rs 3L donation by TSA”

In another development, members of the Technical Staff Association (TSA), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) donated Rs 3 lakhs to facilitate Medical Attendance Scheme (MAS) to purchase equipments to be used for the treatment of registered employees and to strengthen the MAS Covid Response team.

The cheque was handed over to the university officials after the TSA members, Faisal Rais (TSA President), Abid Ali Zaidi (TSA Secretary General) and Kamran Husain (TSA Treasurer) met the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor and Registrar, Mr Abdul Hamid (IPS).

Sanskrit scholar at AMU Prof Khalid Bin Yusuf dies after having COVID-19 symptoms, pneumonia

Aligarh :

Noted Sanskrit scholar at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Prof Khalid Bin Yusuf has passed away after a brief illness, a university statement said here on Thursday.

Prof Yusuf (60) was showing COVID-19 symptoms and had acute pneumonia, his family members said.

He passed away on Wednesday night while being treated at a hospital, they added.

Prof Yusuf was the first Muslim in India to earn a doctorate on Rigveda, as per the statement.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor paid rich tributes to the departed scholar.

During the past fortnight, 13 serving members from the teaching faculty at AMU who were either suffering from COVID-19 or showing symptoms of the infection have lost their lives.

Dr Abidullah Ghazi’s wife Dr Tasneem and others at the funeral ceremony held in Chicago on Monday afternoon.

The 85-year-old founder of Iqra International Educational Foundation was ailing since last few years and died on Sunday.

Dr Abidullah Ghazi – Scholar, Poet, Author, Philosopher and Activist, was laid to rest in the afternoon Monday April 12, 2021 in Chicago.

The 85-year-old founder of Iqra International Educational Foundation was ailing since last few years and under medication at a Chicago hospital-cum-rehab. He passed away in the wee hours of Sunday April 12, 2021.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

Immediate family members, including his wife Dr Tasneema Ghazi and children, were present when he was buried at Chicago cemetery on Monday.

The funeral that lasted for more than one and half hours was limited only to the immediate family members due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Abidullah Ghazi was born to Maulana Hamid Al Ansari – freedom fighter and a renowned journalist of his time, on July 6, 1936 in India. His mother had died when he was still in her early age. Under the guardianship of his grandmother, he was admitted in Jamia Millia at the age of 08.

Later he completed M A (Political Science) and BTh from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He went on to do M A in Economics from the London School of Economics and later wrote thesis on the revivalist views of Raja Rammohan Roy for his Ph.D. at the Ivy League, Harvard University.


Dr Ghazi also published, ‘Zikr-e-Saman Izaraan’, an anthology of Urdu poems.

After completing his education he first migrated to the United Kingdom and then to the United States where he stayed till his last breath.

Dr. Ghazi, who had also done Ph.D. in comparative religions from Harvard University, was a fixture in America’s Muslim community and a pioneer in providing quality Islamic education to our children.

Dr Ghazi was the author and editor of over 150 text and support books on Islamic syllabus designed with his wife Dr Tasneema Ghazi especially for Muslim children living in Western countries or studying in English-medium schools.

He had established Iqra Foundation in Mumbai which is run and taken care of by his younger brother Salman Ghazi and his wife Uzma Nahid.

Dr Abidullah Ghazi was named by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre as being among the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World. Besides, Dr. Ghazi was also the recipient of numerous awards notably the Citizen’s Award, the Ronald Regan Award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence) from Pakistan, a Certificate of Welcome from the City of Los Angeles many others.

Condolences pour in

Condolences are pouring in from different circles and by prominent people who termed the demise of Dr Abidullah Ghazi a great loss not just for the Muslims in the United States but also for those living in other parts of the world, especially India.

“Dr Ghazi, a prominent alumnus, enriched cerebral legacy of Aligarh Movement. He was among a bunch of highly motivated, adventurous persons who broke barriers and went on to distinguish themselves in their chosen fields,” AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor said.

Extending condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased, the Vice Chancellor said:

“I shared a warm personal rapport with Dr Ghazi. The AMU fraternity will always carry Dr Ghazi’s memory in hearts.”

In his condolence message, renowned literary personality Hashmat Sohail said:

“It’s hard to believe Dr. Ghazi is no longer with us. I spent many years together. He will be remembered forever in the worldwide literary community.”

Ali Khan, President and Founder of Urdu Semaj Chicago, in his condolence message said:

“He was a legend in our community and a very genuine, Urdu lover People from Chicago will especially miss the late Dr. Abid Ghazi This is a total loss for us. He was devoted and inspirational leader for the whole community.”

Aligarh:

Noted biotechnologist and scholar, Prof Asad Ullah Khan (Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University ) has been decorated with Sri Om Prakash Bhasin Award-2019 for his trail-blazing research in Biotechnology. 

The award, held in high esteem across the country and is given to eminent scientists in the field of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology, Electronics, Engineering and Medical Sciences, carries a cash prize of Rupees one lakh with a citation and plaque.

The award has been conferred upon noted Indian scientists including APJ Abdul Kalam, MS Swaminathan and KG Menon earlier, and Prof Asad is the first recipient as AMU faculty member. 

Prof Obaid Siddiqui, an alumnus of AMU, received this honour in 1993.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor has congratulated Prof Khan on this awe-inspiring academic honour and said ‘it is given on his seminal contribution to study of Antimicrobial resistance and infection biology of bacteria’.

The award will be given during the first week of November 2020, said a statement from AMU.

AMU declares Class XII result – Syed Quayem Mehdi, Maryam Latif secure 1st Rank

Aligarh, UTTAR PRADESH :

The Aligarh Muslim University declared the result of its Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination Part-II (Class XII), 2020, on Thursday.

A total of 2448 students appeared in the examinations with 2406 students passing the examination. A total of 98.28% students have cleared the Class XII examinations.

Controller of Examinations, Mr M U Zuberi, while declaring the result, informed that 2212 students passed their Class XII Examinations with First Division while 192 students were placed in the second division. Result of only two students was in the third division.

Amongst the boys, Syed Quayem Mehdi scored highest 484 marks out of 500 while Maryam Latif scored 483 marks among girls.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor lauded the efforts of the students. He emphasised that the hard work of students should be appreciated for excelling in the examinations in these turbulent times. He has also wished them all success in their future endeavours.
