Why CM Shivraj Chouhan is calling Sana Ali an inspiration

MADHYA PRADESH:

Sana Ali
Sana Ali

New Delhi:

When Sana Ali of Vidisha, a town in the state of Madhya Pradesh received her appointment letter for the job of technical assistant in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), it turned out to be a celebration of the human spirit and opportunities that the country offers to hardworking youth.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated Sana Ali and her family. He called her “Daughter of Vidisha.” Chief Minister Chouhan also belongs to Vidhisha.

In his message posted on Twitter, the chief minister said

“Hearty congratulations to Sana Ali, daughter of Vidisha, on being selected as Technical Assistant at ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Center. Congrats! Ladies like you are making Madhya Pradesh proud and revealing the potential of daughters. I wish you all the best for your happy, successful, and bright future ahead.”

Even central minister Jyotiraje Scindia, who hails from Madhya Pradesh congratulated  Sana. He complimented Sana for rising above her adverse circumstances to reach this position and become an inspiration to others.

Sana’s achievement has to be seen in the context of her social and economic backdrop. Considering that Sana Ali’s father was a bus driver in the engineering college where she completed her B.tech and later M.Tech degrees, Sana’s achievement is great.

Her father and family had to raise funds for her education by mortgaging family jewelry and eliciting snide comments from relatives.

Sana’s father Sajid Ali used to be employed as a bus driver in the same college from where Sana completed her engineering studies. Sana Ali completed her master’s degree from Samrat Ashoka Technology Institute (SATI) of Vidisha.

However, later Sajid was promoted to the position of a laboratory assistant in the same college.

While Sana was completing her Master’s degree, Sajid Ali faced a severe financial crisis. He had to borrow money and pawn his wife’s jewelry to pay for his daughter’s education.

As the family made efforts to raise money for their daughter’s higher education, they also faced taunts from extended family and others. People around them disapproved of the family’s obsession with making a daughter go for higher studies when they didn’t have enough resources.

They brazenly asked Sajid why he choose to take a loan for his daughter’s studies as she will have to leave his home one day after her marriage and he would be left to repay the loan.

However, Sajid ignored them and kept supporting his daughter’s education.

Today a proud father Sajid says, “I worked hard to educate my daughter. Despite all the financial constraints, we continued her studies. I told my daughter that she has to complete her studies at any cost and achieve her goal. My daughter also worked hard and reached this point. We are very happy. I pray that my daughter progresses all through her life.

After completing her M.Tech course, Sana started preparing for the competition. Sana will be joining the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) at Sriharikota in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. This center of ISRO is a rocket launcher center, where rockets with state-of-the-art technology are sent into the space.

Sana told the local media, “I belong to a middle-class family. I want to give a message to all women that they must strive to get an education at any cost. Make all efforts to achieve the goal which you have set in your life. You need to work hard and don’t get discouraged by the failures that come your way.”

Significantly, Sana not only worked hard in her studies but also gave tuition to young children to meet the expenses related to her education.

Saima Rehman Magray: The ‘Eventgrid’ girl of Kashmir

JAMMU & KASHMIR:

Saima Rehman Magray

One September afternoon in a village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, a family was busy in making arrangements for their son’s wedding ceremony. The family members sat all relaxed inside their home, while a young girl in her mind twenties looked over the arrangements that were being done. Hailing from district Kulgam of South Kashmir, the young girl is chasing her passion. Saima Rehman Magray, is the owner of Kashmir’s first online event management company, Eventgrid. Saima holds an MBA degree and is also a sitting member of Hausla JKTPO.

Saima after completing her graduation got to spend time with her family. She said, “I got to see the social side of my life as well, I was free for some time due to covid and this lead me to witness quite a few weddings, and birthday parties but in those events, I could see a gloom over the general atmosphere of happiness. And I enquired about what is missing and what could be done to amplify the happy atmosphere of these events, this lead me to open this event management company.”

Eventgrid is an online event management company which specialises in managing events like weddings, birthday parties, religious events, feasts, family get togethers etc. It also provides other services. Saima says that the need of founding this company came from her own experience of parties and gatherings she attended.

However Saima says that “it was never easy.” For her event management came up with its own sets of challenges, ” Event management may seem easy but it is not. This field is full of challenges and it pushes one to the edge if not organized well. It demands a lot of patience and practice.” Adding further she said, “I have been lucky because my family has been very supportive but still as I said we live in a society that’s yet to provide proper place to women and her dreams. The only known challenge for me is that I am the first girl in this field and I have got to stand against some big names alone.”

When asked about how her being a woman proved for her, she said, “Being a woman is not a weakness but when you are out venturing something like this you got to have support and as a woman, I think women are very less supported when it comes to owning a business.” She further explained, “I do believe that patriarchy is still an issue and on top of that being a girl who has to work with men all the time comes with connotations and stigmas. I have never let my gender come in between me and my work.”

Working with a team of all men, Saima says her younger brother is her biggest supporter, “My family has always been very supportive and my younger brother who even helps me in managing this enterprise has been a prime support.”

For Saima the start of her business had been slow but she says, “Well the start was pretty slow because this business is new to this state and people hardly know about it. But with each passing day our audience is growing.”

As the business is running well for Saima she looks content as she says, “Alhamdulilah.”

About her future plans, she says she wants to go “national” with her enterprise, “My aspiration is to go national with this and join the list of successful women entrepreneurs.” She further explained, “Well to be honest future is pretty unsure and uncertain, so I don’t have an exact answer but I do have hope that in coming years I see this business growing more and more. My team is not very big but there are many vendors involved from Kashmir and even outside Kashmir. And many more people who are always ready and whose work has always been appreciated.”

Saima concluded by sharing a message for young generation, ” My message is that no work is easy, we must work hard and sail the storms that it brings about, do whatever it takes and achieve our goals but always stay within our limits and be sure about the results. You will succeed for sure.”

Providing succour in their sunset years: Yusuffali builds Rs 15 crore building at Kollam’s Gandhibhavan

KERALA / Dubai, UAE :

The Rs 15-crore, 40,000 sqft modern facility that can accommodate 300 people was opened last week.

Yusuffali M A and Punalur Somarajan bring two wheelchair-bound inmates to the prayer hall of Gandhibhavan.

Kochi:

In September 2016, after laying the foundation stone of his proposed mall in Thiruvananthapuram, Lulu Group chairman and managing director Yusuffali M A visited Gandhibhavan, a destitute home for senior citizens and children in Pathanapuram, Kollam. The sight of elderly women left orphaned by their children troubled the UAE-based businessman, who runs 255 stores and shopping malls in the Gulf and other parts of the globe.

“He could not fathom how aged mothers could be abandoned in a destitute home by their children. And this troubled him no end,” a confidant said. The next few months and years saw Yusuffali visiting the inmates of Gandhibhavan at regular intervals and supporting them with their medical, food and other requirements. In the process, he supported the home with around Rs 7.5 crore for the medical, food, and clothing needs of the inmates.

Around the same time, Yusuffali also got personally involved in setting up a three-storey elderly home for the women of Gandhibhavan. The Rs 15-crore, 40,000 sqft modern facility that can accommodate 300 people was opened last week. Gandhibhavan, founded by Dr Punalur Somarajan, a public figure who lost his mother early in his life, will be run as earlier with Yusuffali as its mentor.

Gandhibhavan building

inauguration of the new building, constructed over three years, was also unique: it was carried out by three aged mothers of the care home, and no politician was invited. The ‘griha pravesh’ (housewarming) was completed when Yusuffali and Somarajan helped two inmates in wheelchairs into their respective rooms. The billionaire has also provided adjustable side-rail beds, furniture, two lifts, a laboratory, pharmacy, library, prayer rooms, dining hall, a doctor’s consulting room, and modern waste-management facility, among others, for the elderly home.

“The responsibility of taking care of aged parents rests with their children. Only 15 women of Gandhibhavan are unwed. The remaining women had grown-up children, who had abandoned them. I built the new facility so that their sunset years will be spent at a good place and in abundance,” Yussufali said at the opening of the new home.
