Chennai :
As a poet, Abdul Rahman is special because his poems give a kind of power which could even destroy any establishment,” said DMK chief M Karunanidhi.
“I fist met Rahman in the 1950s. It was at a poetry reading session I first heard his poems. I still read his poems. He questions the order that we are compelled to follow due to various reasons. His poems are very powerful and they give an voice for the voiceless,” said Karunanidhi.
Speaking at a function organized to pay tribute to the veteran Tamil poet, the DMK chief said, “Abdul Rahman is special. What makes him special is the way he handles the subject. He uses satire and irony in a most powerful way,” he said.
Born in Madurai in 1937, Rahman worked as professor of Tamil for 29years at the Islamia college, Vaniambadi. His ‘Aalapanai’, a collection of poetry, won Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil in 2009.
